Anthony Edwards set for arthroscopic procedure, Wolves expect star guard back this season By KSTP Anthony Edwards Injury Update 10-28-26 The Minnesota Timberwolves received encouraging news regarding Anthony Edwards’ latest injury setback.Team president of basketball operations Tim Connelly said Wednesday that Edwards will undergo an arthroscopic procedure within the next 24 hours after recent imaging revealed an issue the organization wanted to address immediately. Connelly emphasized the injury is not related to the meniscus and is not expected to jeopardize Edwards’ season.“Our only concern is his long-term health,” Connelly said.***Click video box above to hear full comments from Tim Connelly and Bones Hyland***The decision came after updated imaging showed changes from previous evaluations, including scans conducted throughout the summer and preseason. Connelly said the most recent imaging, taken after Minnesota’s game against Cleveland, revealed a development that prompted the procedure.“It’s not a meniscus,” Connelly said. “It’s just an arthroscopic cleanup.”While Edwards recently scored 47 points despite dealing with discomfort, Minnesota’s front office and medical staff determined intervention was the best course of action.“He wants to play tonight,” Connelly said. “But we’re just concerned about his long-term health. We want to make sure we put him in the best position to be the best version he’s going to be for a long time.”The Timberwolves have not established a timetable for Edwards’ return and plan to provide further updates following the procedure. Still, Connelly expressed confidence that the injury will not sideline the franchise star for the remainder of the season.“We don’t know when it’s going to be,” Connelly said. “But we don’t think it’s going to be something that’s going to cost the season.”Connelly described Edwards as an ultra-competitive player who often needs to be protected from himself when injuries arise.“The fun part for him is the game,” Connelly said. “It’s a good problem.”Edwards’ teammates echoed the belief that he will return quickly.Guard Bones Hyland acknowledged Edwards’ absence will be difficult to replace but said Minnesota’s depth gives the team confidence moving forward.“Nobody can be like Ant,” Hyland said. “But we got players that can step in and just take over a game as well.”Hyland pointed to the Timberwolves’ success in previous stretches without Edwards, including last season’s playoff run, as evidence the roster can withstand adversity.“It’s that next-man-up mentality,” Hyland said. “When one of our warriors goes down, we step up.”Hyland expects Minnesota’s style to change somewhat while Edwards is sidelined, with more pace, ball movement and opportunities for other players to expand their roles.“I think it’s more pace now. More running. A lot of up and down,” Hyland said. “A lot of players stepping up.”He also believes additional offensive responsibility could benefit LaMelo Ball, allowing the veteran guard to become more aggressive as Minnesota adjusts without its leading scorer. As difficult as the news was to hear, Hyland said Edwards’ performance in the team’s most recent game served as another example of his toughness.“His knee was hurting and he went for 47,” Hyland said. “He’s a basketball junkie. He wants to play all the time.”For now, Minnesota’s focus is on Edwards’ recovery and ensuring one of the league’s brightest stars returns fully healthy.“We’re going to miss Ant for sure,” Hyland said. “But it’s not going to be for long. We’re going to hold the fort down.”
